Buying a Disney Vacation Club Membership
To start your Disney vacation club membership, you purchase a contract for a certain number of points per year. You can then use the points to reserve stays at Disney properties. You can book any room type in any resort for any dates, subject to availability.
Purchasing Disney Vacation Club Points
You can choose a DVC contract with between 150 and 1,000 points per year. The amount of points you may need to use for a vacation depends on:
- Where you want to stay
- Type of accommodation (standard or premium view, room size, etc.)
- Travel period
For example, a room that costs you 150 points for a week in October may cost you 280 points during the Christmas season. DVC points charts will give you an estimate of how many points you’ll need for each resort.
Disney-Direct or Third-Party Contracts
You can buy your membership contract directly from Disney. You can also purchase a contract from a third-party reseller.
A resale contract can be significantly less expensive than a contract direct from Disney. However, you get fewer benefits than with a direct-from-Disney contract. To receive all the benefits of Disney Vacation Club, you have to purchase at least 150 points directly from Disney.
Cost to Join the Disney Vacation Club
The cost to join the Disney Vacation Club depends on how many points you buy. For most DVC resorts, each point currently costs $217. The minimum contract of 150 points is $32,550.
Discounts are often available for new Disney Vacation Club members, though.
You’ll need to pay the closing costs for your contract. You’ll also pay annual dues that help cover operating costs for the resort and real estate taxes.
You can finance the purchase of your Disney Vacation Club contract if you don’t want to pay the entire amount upfront. Disney offers fixed annual percentage rates for qualified buyers.
Choosing Your Home Resort
The home resort you choose is very important. You have priority access to reserve time at your home resort. Popular dates and accommodations sell out quickly, so priority access makes a significant difference.

You can make reservations up to eleven months ahead at your home resort. Outside of your home resort, you can’t book more than seven months in advance.
How to Book a Vacation with Disney Adventure Club Points
Reserving your stay at a Disney Adventure Club resort is similar to booking a vacation at any Disney property. The main difference is the booking window.
You can make a reservation online starting at 8 am ET eleven months before the date of your stay at your home resort. You have to wait until seven months before check-in at other Disney resorts.
When booking online, you can search for available rooms based on your preferred travel dates. You can filter by resort and type of room. You can see how many points each option would take.
If you don’t have enough points for the accommodations you want, you can borrow them from the following year. You can also hold points over until the next year if you don’t use them all.
